The Actual Schedule of Woodstock

-or at least pretty close

Thanks to Kees de Lange, Dr. Thomas Schmid, Kenny Sahr and the folks at the Woodstock Project for the set lists. Good work brothers and sisters!
I finally made the modifications that people have been asking me probably at least 3 years to make. The guys and gals on the Woodstock Project have done their homework and then some.

Friday, August 15th, 1969

(click on the artist to see their set list!)
  • Richie Havens @ 5:07pm (per most of the resources that mentioned the time)
  • Swami Satchadinanda - Indian guru
  • Sweetwater
  • Bert Sommer @ around 8:00pm
  • Tim Hardin @ around 9:00pm
  • Ravi Shankar - had to quit his set @ 10:35 due to rain
  • Melanie
  • Arlo Guthrie
  • Joan Baez - played for 40 minutes at the free stage before her manager found her and informed her that she still had to play on the BIG stage

    Saturday, August 16th, 1969

(click on the artist to see their set list!)
  • Quill @ 12:15pm - threw maracas, then whatever else they could get their hands on to get the crowd into their set. Needless to say it failed and we hardly ever heard from them again.

  • John Sebastian
  • Keef Hartley
  • Santana @ around 2:30 - Played Soul Sacrifice and basically was the real beginning of day 2 of Woodstock
  • The Incredible String Band - according to the interview in Be Glad
  • Canned Heat
  • Mountain
  • Grateful Dead
  • Creedence Clearwater Revival
  • Janis Joplin
  • Sly and the Family Stone @ 1:30am - DANCE TO THE FUNKY MUSIC!!!
  • The Who @ 3:00am - 'Dammit Abbie, stay off the stage' probably the words of Michael Lang to Abbie Hoffman just before Pete Townshend clubbed him in the back of the head with his guitar
  • Jefferson Airplane @ 8:30am

    Sunday, August 17th, 1969

(click on the artist to see their set list!)
  • Joe Cocker @ 2:00pm
  • The BIG STORM - not a band, but Mother Nature wanted to have an act in Woodstock nonetheless
  • Max Yasgur - the farmer whose land Woodstock was held on
  • Country Joe and the Fish
  • Ten Years After @ 8:00pm
  • The Band @ 10:30pm
  • Johnny Winter
  • Blood, Sweat and Tears @ 12:00am
  • Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young @ 3:00am
  • The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
  • Sha-Na-Na
  • Jimi Hendrix @ 8:30am - Jimi closed to a mere 30 to 40 thousand people on Monday morning

The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was officially over at 10:30am following Jimi Hendrix on August 18th, 1969.

Thanks to all of those who set me straight on the Jeff Beck Group. Turns out they split up in July and thus had to cancel. Also, articles have mentioned the Moody Blues, Chicago and *huh?* some of the Beatles. As far as I know they weren't there. What I do know is that Iron Butterfly never made it to Woodstock because they were stuck at the airport. Hell, why didn't they fly them in just like everyone else??? I dunno. Maybe it was a monetary issue (Lord knows they knew they were in big enough trouble already). Or maybe because of the rumors of gang fights and what not at their concerts. <shrug>

A friend of mine, Mark(MaxYasgur@aol.com) has told me of another mag that Rolling Stone put out right about the same time of the Life Special Edition. HERE is the letter he sent me explaining their version of the Woodstock Schedule. He is also a collector and trader of Woodstock memorabilia for all of you collectors out there.
