Whiskey River, a band from the Fairfield County area of Ohio was formed. Its founders were two brothers from the city of Bremen, Lee and Rod Montgomery. Lee Montgomery was a former member of the band Shenandoah. He left the band in the spring of 1975 and returned home to embark upon a musical adventure with his brother. Lee, who was a lead guitar player, brought with him a talented musician from West Virginia named Jeff Thorn. Jeff had also been in Shenandoah. With Jeff being able to play a wide variety of instruments, he fit the bill perfectly. These three musicians immediately began molding and shaping their musical style. The threesome definitely liked what they had going for themselves. However, as good as Jeff was, he could not play multiple instruments at the same time. So the began looking for a fourth member to play bass guitar. They didn't need to look any further than their own back yard. A guy by the name of Jamie Elder had played bass in a band with Lee and Rod in the early 1970's. Remembering Jamie's talents, Rod thought he would call him with hopes that he would be interested in playing bass. After contacting their old friend, they found no hesitation on Jamie's part. He immediately joined with the three, not knowing that this was the beginning of a life-long friendship that still exists today. It was a mix that gelled right from the first day of practice. The four members then established the name Whiskey River. Strong harmonies and a good solid sound have propelled this band for the last 23 years! Eight years ago, Whiskey River met Dave Woltz. Living in Canada, Dave was heading for the States because of a job advancement. Like Jeff, David was another talented musician. Through an acquaintance of Lee, the band received the opportunity to meet Dave and 'jam with' Dave, and that's all it would take. After hearing Dave sing, harmonize, and play drums, they knew what an asset he would be to their band. Dave joined in 1990. To this day they still perform for many nightclubs, organizations, and social events. In the last two decades, their music has changed. They went from a band that played a lot of Rock n' Roll with a little bit of Country to a band that plays a lot of Country, with a little bit of Rock n' Roll.
