sections devoted to literary arts and poetry.
Central Ohio Fiction Writers
COFW is a non-profit professional
association for writers of all fiction genres. COFW encourages
writers to grow and gain knowledge in the craft of writing fiction.
Members provide a networking system to share knowledge and support
the goal of being published. COFW meets on the first "teen"
Saturday of each month from Noon to 4 pm at the Gahanna Public
Library mseeting room.
The
Columbus Writers Conference
The Columbus Writers Conference
presents a broad range of fiction and
nonfiction topics presented by writers, editors, and literary
agents. This
annual event, typically held in September, began in 1993 and continues
with
its goal of offering educational and networking opportunities
to writers who
range from beginners to seasoned professionals.
Over the years, writing topics
have included the novel, nonfiction book, short story, writing
for children, finding and working with a literary agent, working
with editors, poetry, science fiction, screenwriting, playwriting,
memoir, travel, humor, cookbook, technical, magazine, and the
freelance life. Conference attendees have come from throughout
Ohio, many states, and from
abroad.

Downtown
Writers Network
The Downtown Writers Network
is a "Resource for the Art and the Business of Writing" in Columbus,
with a storefront office for meetings and workshops near downtown,
and a web site that provides news about local events, job opportunities
for central Ohio writers and the Columbus writing community in
general. We offer several free services to freelance commercial
writers, including a searchable database where they can market
their talents to new business clients. Writers' Group at the Downtown
Writers Network -- Sunday afternoons, once a month. This open
group offers advice, support and feedback among its members, critiquing
fiction and non-fiction pieces submitted by two writers for each

Writers site. Creative Nonfiction Writers Group. This group
meets monthly at the Downtown Writers Network, and is open to

Pavement
Saw Press
Pavement Saw press is a non-profit organization
which has been publishing steadily for over seven years. This
year we published seven full length collections in both paperback
and library edition hard covers, one chapbook and a yearly literary
journal anthology. We specialize in finding authors who have been
widely published in literary journals but have not published a
chapbook or full length book. Pavement Saw Press' mission is to
establish a large, efficient,non-university affiliated press,
publishing works of national significance, magnitude and influence.
We will publish quality books of national importance by unknown
and known authors from the United States.
Once a year our literary journal,
Pavement
Saw, is published. The journal has grown to eighty pages,
perfect bound, and features an under represented writer in each
issue. The content of the journal is poetry and various forms
of prose including letterwriting and short-short fiction. The
authors who have appeared in Pavement Saw represent a section
of upcoming poets and writers who have recently won the Academy
of American Poetry Prize, NEA Awards, various state grants and
fellowships (including the Robert Frost Fellowship at Breadloaf),
and some have appeared recently in Best American Poetry and Best
American Essays.

Pudding
House Writers Innovation Center
Pudding House Writers Innovation
Center is the nationally acclaimed multi-dimensional workshop
facility, writers' retreat, and publishing house that is one of
the most active small presses in the counrty. Pudding House Publications
specializes in chapbooks with only a $10 reading fee whether you
submit through competitions or via general submissions. They publish
anthologies, broadsides, and Pudding Magazine: The International
Journal of Applied Poetry. The Workshops at Pudding House have
received national recognition and people come from near and far
to attend either special one-day events or their series. The current
workshop meets the 2nd Saturday of each month, 9:30am to 4pm,
through April 2002 and the title is EXTREME SPORT: Writing &
Critiquing Poetry. Pudding House is home for the national archives
project POETS GREATEST HITS and is headed up by poet Jennifer

They manage Poetry Calendar Columbus and the internationally renown
WORD JAR CHALLENGE as well as 30 other webpages on their website.
Their chapbook competition deadlines are September 30 and June
30 annually.
The
Poetry Forum at Larry's
Since 1984, The Poetry Forum
at Larry's has presented the best Columbus and regional poets
in featured readings followed by open mike readings from the first
Monday in October through mid-May. In the open readings, audience
members may present their own work or that of other poets, 2 poems
or five minutes (whichever is shorter). From performance and street
poets to widely published academics to poetry ensembles, The Poetry
Forum offers an eclectic range of wordsmiths and a receptive audience
for anyone who wants to pass the word. Donations to the weekly
passing of the hat give donors a chance at the Forum's book raffle.
A book of poetry is provided each week by Half Price Books.

The Thurber House is a literary center for readers
and writers, we're nicely located in the historic boyhood home
of James Thurber. As we've grown, we've created residencies and
awards for writers, offered writing classes and camps for kids,
presented renowned national writers and remarkable Ohio writers
to our audiences of readers, and of course thrown an annual Birthday
bash for the great James.
Writeshop
Writeshop is a writers' workshop group based
in Columbus, OH. All serious writers are welcome. We meet the
2nd Thursday of every month to discuss and critique members' work.
While we workshop all forms/genres of writing, our members' specialty
is in fiction, particularly science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
Several members are also involved/interested in independent filmmaking.
