Home's ex-administrator suspended

A state board on Tuesday suspended the license of an administrator who ran a home for the mentally retarded in Choctaw, citing gross negligence in running the facility.

The action by the state Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators means Treva Millarr will not be able to serve as an administrator in the state for one year.

Millarr formerly was administrator of the Choctaw Living Center, where a patient's death went unnoticed for six days earlier this year. She now is administrator of Shawnee Colonial Estates Nursing Home.

"I'm not going to make an excuse for why we had a resident die and lie there for six days," Millarr told the board.

The resident, Victoria Pepiakitah, died Jan. 7 of a seizure in her room.

Martha Kohlwey, an inspection team leader for the state Health Department, testified that an improperly trained nurse recorded Pepiakitah as on a leave of absence because the nurse thought she had left with a family member.

Choctaw Living Center has a lengthy history of problems under previous administrators. At least six former employees have faced prosecution over mistreatment of residents.
