JUSTICE
CLARENCE THOMAS
Born June 23, 1948
Nominated by President Bush
Sworn in October 23, 1991
Justice Clarence Thomas is one of the "modern conservative's" most highly respected leaders. Yet, he is disliked by more liberals than most any other judge that has ever sat on the high court.
Justice Thomas has stayed with his conservative rulings unlike many other Republican nominated justices that have liberalized over the years. Of course, Justice Thomas is the last justice to be nominated by a Republican President.
Justice Thomas says that he will serve on the high court until he turns 86, that would be the year 2034. Why the age eighty-six? That specific age is double the age that he took the oath to be an associate justice.
As with each person on the court, they tend to agree with certain justices than with others. In Justice Clarence Thomas' case, he had a tendency to agree with Justices Scalia, O'Connor, and Rehnquist. In more recent years, he has tended to agree with those three justices more so than he use too. And in fact, he has tended to agree with all the Justices slightly more than he use too. But each of the Justices in recent years have tended to agree with each other a little more than in previous years.
The one justice that Clarence Thomas has agreed with the least is Justice John Paul Stevens. Justice Stevens is arguably the most liberal justice on the court at the present time. Justice Clarence Thomas has become more outspoken in recent years, in fact doing many speeches for various organizations or educational institutions.
Justice Clarence Thomas
is also one of the few Justices that has even quoted the Bible in a court ruling
in the recent years. Such quotations had been a regular occurrence in
the early stages of American History.
