JUSTICE
SANDRA DAY O'CONNOR
Born March 26, 1930
Nominated July 7, 1981 by President Reagan
Confirmed September 22, 1981 by the US Senate
Sworn in September 25, 1981
Justice Sandra Day OConnor is the first female to be named to the Supreme Court. If it were not for her continued rumored ill health, she may possibly be named as the next Supreme Court Justice by a Republican President.
Justice OConnor attended both Stanford University and the Stanford Law School. She also served as a State Senator for Arizona and served as the Senate Majority leader for Arizona as well.
Justice OConnor is considered one of the swing votes on the court. She may have been put on the court by a conservative President, but she does not always agree with the more conservative justices. Of course the idea of a conservative or liberal ruling is all relative to the person reading the ruling.
