These tips work for the ZR-5000, but all may not apply to the 5700 or
5800. Keep watching for tips for the ZR5700/5800 units

[2nd][NEW] = Create a new linked entry in Contacts or Data Files
[2nd][F] = Keyword Search from Index View
[QUIT] = Cancel print, data transfer, etc.
[MENU] = Pull down top left Icon IF it is a pull down menu. If it's not a pull down menu (as in
Documents) then ENTER often does what the top left Icon does.
[2nd] Activities = go to today's Daily View (from most places in Activities)
BS] (backspace) = Go to a Specific Date
[CANCEL] backs up from Daily to Weekly to Monthly View.
[ENTER] goes to Daily View from Monthly or Weekly View. Tap the TYPE field on any Activities
entry Detail View to quickly change an Appointment to a To Do, a Holiday to a Birthday, etc. Tap
Activities after creating a new To Do to save the entry and return to Daily View.
[2nd][NEW ENTRY] = New To Do
Enter last 2 digits of year and Zaurus will fill in the rest.

Tap {Contacts} or {Data Files} repeatedly to cycle between the three Contact
files or Data Files.
[2nd][F] = Find text within document
[2nd][O] = Bold on [2nd][I] = Italics on
[2nd][U] = Underline on
[2nd][Y] = All styles off
Highlight a word or group of words to spell check only those words.
Use a Document template so new Documents will have your preferred margins, tabs, etc. A right
margin of 3.5 fits the Zaurus screen nicely when using the mid-size
font.
To make a template, create a new Document with the settings you like and save it with an easy to
find name like "A TEMPLATE" (make it the first entry
alphabetically).
To create a new document from Index View using the template: tap the A tab (takes you to the first
alphabetical entry, your template), then press [2nd][C], [2nd][V], [ENTER]. You're in a new
Document with your default settings. If you forget to rename the new document (by tapping the
Document name on the bottom left of the screen) you'll just have two Documents named A
TEMPLATE (one with a newer date), and your original A TEMPLATE Document won't be
overwritten.
[2nd][Q] = Insert new topic
[2nd][W] = Move family
[2nd][E] = Expand/Collapse topic
[2nd][O] = Bold on
[2nd][I] = Italics on
[2nd][U] = Underline on
[2nd][Y] = All styles off
[2nd][Z] = Undo
[2nd][A] = Redo
To print a Spreadsheet: Copy and Paste any or all of the Spreadsheet into
a Document then print the Document. Or print the current screen in
Spreadsheet (or any application) by pressing [2nd][P].
To Copy a Spreadsheet to a Document as a graphics image: highlight the cells
you wish to copy, tap {EDIT} then {Copy Image}. Now open a Document and use
[2nd][V] or {EDIT}{Paste} to copy the graphic image into the Document. In
the Document, you can highlight the image then tap {PICT} to modify the image
(like using Scrapbook).
To Copy a Spreadsheet to a Document as text with tabs: highlight the cells
you wish to copy, press [2nd][C] or tap {EDIT} then {Copy}. Now open a
Document and use [2nd][V] or {EDIT}{Paste} to copy the text into the
Document. You'll need to set your Document Tabs similar to the Spreadsheet
Column Widths. In the Document, you can edit the content of the "cells" just
like any other text.
Tap Contacts or Data Files repeatedly to cycle between the different
files.
Tap the time on the top right of the screen to toggle it to the date.
Press [ENTER][ENTER] to save and continue editing (though losing your
place in the entry).
Move highlighted text by touching the text and dragging it to a new
location.
Copy highlighted text by pressing [2nd] before touching and dragging.
To block a large section of text:
1.Place the cursor at the starting point,
2.Use the scroll bar on the right of the screen to move the text so that the ending point is visible
(do NOT tap the text or use the cursor keys),
3.Press [2nd],
4.Tap the ending point.
Most entries are automatically saved when [NEW ENTRY] is pressed.
No need to press [ENTER] between multiple new entries.
If you dislike perpetual edit mode then use [CANCEL] to return to Index View from Detail View
without saving inadvertent changes. But be sure to press [ENTER] to save intentional changes (only
Documents and Notes will warn you that you are about to discard your
changes).
Tapping Tools then Message brings up the Unlock screen with only three screen taps instead of the
normal five taps. But you can't get back to where you were before unlocking by using [CANCEL],
you have to choose your previous application again.
Some features, like PC Link, require that you use the normal Tools, Secret, Unlock method. When
the battery warning first comes on you'll want to have fresh batteries available, but you probably
won't need to replace them right away. Read the information in the Zaurus Help screens under
General Help, How to replace the batteries.
File entries in the Garbage File when you know you won't need them after a day or two, then easily
Delete the Garbage File every Monday morning. Allows easy memory usage management without
the need to regularly review and delete individually.
Duplicating an entry with Copy/Paste looses the Links on the copy, but duplicating an entry using
[2nd][Enter] ("save as") retains the Links in some
applications.
To transfer data from 8000 based software like OL2 into the Zaurus select Import (not PC Link)
from the Zaurus Tools menu.
The file SHARP.CIS in PALMB Library 9 explains what you need to know about connecting to
CompuServe with your Zaurus, including how to set up a TERminal DEFinition (called a TER
DEF).
A TER DEF tells CompuServe the size of your Zaurus screen, among other things. You give the
TER DEF a name (like ZAURUS) so that it won't conflict with the other devices you use to
connect to CompuServe (like your computer). It's easier to create the TER DEF if you connect to
CompuServe with your computer, not with your Zaurus. You might not see the TER DEF settings
you made if you trying to look at them with your computer, but don't worry, your changes are
there.
After you've created the TER DEF with your computer then you can connect to CompuServe with
your ZAURUS (by adding *ZAURUS to your User ID, like 71234,567*ZAURUS as
SHARP.CIS explains). If you have difficulty connecting to CompuServe after you've set things up,
remove any Auto Log On in the Zaurus and try connecting to CompuServe manually. Once you
confirm that you can manually connect (by typing in your User ID and Password) and everything
seems to work, then create an Auto Log On and try it out. In any communications software,
including the Zaurus Terminal, an Auto Log On must be precise, exact, flawless, and perfect or it
won't work.
COMPUSERVE COMPANION FOR ZAURUS (ZR-5700/5800):
(Keystrokes probably the same for ZR-5000 add on CCZ software)
[2nd][S] = Spell Check
To create a new forum message to "All": Start a new message, tap {To:} to
add a recipient, replace the text in the NAME field with All, tap {>> To:},
tap {Done} or press [ENTER].
(Note: with the 5700/5800 use the CompuServe companion for e-mail, forums and executive
news. Only use the terminal if you need information from CompuServe not covered by one of
these three functions .
