alias St Stephens it gives a note of a 3William Coucheof Torfery died

7 Dec 1776 aged 89 years and of his wife 3Ann Couche (daughter of Peter

Hoskins, Ibberton, Devon, England)who died 22 Sept 1753 aged 52.

Pg 44        

               John Couch FLS was born at Polperro 15 March 1788 and still

lived there in the mid 1850s.  He was a doctor, a talented naturalist and

antiquary.  He had a son called Richard who helped with some of his books.

 JC was considered THE authority on naturalist matters and was well respected

(whole page dedicated here).

 

Pg 193            The manor of Luxulyan has

been the property of the Rashleigh family since the reign of King Charles

I; they purchased the manor from the Couches.

 

Pg 238            Richard

Quiller Couch born 14 Mar 1816, Polperro, died 8 May 1863 had one son

and 3 daughters.

 

Pg 255            Maker, Cornwall side of River Tamar

adjacent to Plymouth Harbour.  In 1763 John Couch an elderly man was murdered

whilst hoisting signals on the church tower during the wars of King George

III.   He was allegedly killed for his watch and silver buckles by labourer

Nicholas Maunder who absconded from the scene; was arrested at Crafthole,

tried then executed.

 

Pg 328            Merther Church in Powder has a tomb:

3Thomas Couch of Merther buried 8 July 167? and of Mary his wife buried

2 Dec 16624.

Thomas Couch died 13 Jan 1666
