The Pledge of Allegiance
What is now the Marengo Church of Christ was the vision of a group of dedicated ministers who were members of the Central Ohio Preachers Association. These men, acting on the challenge of Pat Hartson, an evangelist with the Northeastern Ohio Association of Helpers began the ground work for a new church in southern Morrow County in the spring of 1983.
It began as a bible study group meeting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Burns in the summer of 1983. Later the bible study group was moved to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Brown of Marengo. These bible studies were conducted on Thursday evenings by area Church of Christ ministers.
In December of 1983 It was decided that Sunday morning worship services would begin on January 1st. 1984. Thus, the Highland West Elementary School building was rented, advertisement went out and a young junior of Cincinnati Bible College by the name of Doug Swan was called as a part-time weekend evangelist.
On January 1st. 1984 The Marengo Church of Christ ventured out on faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and held her first worship service with 14 committed members. There were 34 present for that first service. Thus another church boldly bearing the name of our Lord Jesus Christ was created.
In January of 1985, 5.85 acres of ground was purchased and 2 years later construction of the shell of our current building was began. Through the mass efforts of volunteer labor the building was completed in November of 1987. The very first worship service was held on November 1st. 1987 with 126 attending. We continue today through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, striving to be a beacon to the community.
