Well I finally decided to put my own T-Type webpage together.   The best resource is, of course, www.lesabret.com   Kudos to those guys.  Anyway, hopefully you'll find this page of interest.   If you want to send me an email my address (or is it e-dress?) is lcordero@columbus.rr.com

July, 2002 - Picture at the top is my '89 Buick LeSabre T-Type that I bought in June 1991 with about 35k from Len Immke Buick in Columbus, Ohio.  To date the car has 155k; I captured one of the recent milestones with my digital camera.   The car originally came from Florida, and I was fortunate enough to get the original window sticker when I bought the car.  I'm not sure where the luggage rack came from; my guess would be that is a dealer installed option.   I like it because it gives my T-Type just a little different look than the others out there.  Click here to see a better picture of it.

My dad nicknamed the car "The Rocket" mostly from the way I drive it as opposed to anything I've done to upgrade the car.  However, the changes that I've made to the car include removing the console, adding a Pioneer CD player (which I got for half price when Sun TV went out of business), disconnected the power antenna in favor of a antenna tape that Radio Shack used to sell, changed to 225/60R15 tires, tinted the windows just slightly, repaint the hood/roof/trunk, and added cold air induction.  A friend of mine, Darrin, (who I met at NAPA when I went in one day and shouted "hey, who owns that black T-Type in the parking lot!?") came over to brain storm a cold air induction system.  Darrin's idea was to drop a K&N cone style filter in place of the fuel vapor canister.   That way the air is being pulled from an area away from the engine heat and coming up from under the spoiler.  This was not a ram air situation like some others have been using (running a tube from the front of the car), but was certainly going to be an improvement over factory.  After several trips to the Home Depot to buy plumbing tubes, we had a workable cold air induction.  You can read details about it here.

Recently, however, I came up with a much simplified version of this setup which is cheaper, has fewer parts, and I believe gives me the same performance.  It's toward the bottom of that page.

I like these Buicks so much that rather than continuing to fix mine up, I decided to get another one.  I found on the Internet a guy who was selling two - a black '87 and a silver '87.  He was using the silver one as a parts car to fix up the black one which had been in a minor front end accident.  He just didn't have the time to work on them.  The were in North Carolina (ie, 8 hours away), but it turned out that the seller used to work with my brother-in-law's father several years ago.  Small world, huh?  Anyway, I picked up the two cars in October, had the necessary front end parts swapped over and had myself a pretty decent backup car.  I nicknamed that car "DJ." 000176t.JPG (3008 bytes)
Here's the back up car next to The Rocket.

Even though I had two running T-Types, I still kept looking through the Internet ads.  In May I found one near Dayton.  I must have called a half dozen times with no response.  At the end of June I though I'd give it just one more call before throwing away the number.  This time I was able to make arrangements to look at the car that day.  The car was a black '89 with the usual problems (warped rear spoiler, sagging headliner, separating door pads, etc.) and had been sitting for about a year when the radiator let go.  The interior had a ripped driver's leather seat, but otherwise decent.  The engine sound strong, but the car needs brake work.   I talked it over with the owner (a cute number named Nicole) and bought the car on the spot.  The next day I had it towed to my friend's body shop.  Here's a picture of all my cars (at least for now -- I took a look at another one today!).

The car I saw today was an unusual one.  It's a black '87 with a red stripe, which really looks good.  The first thing that caught my attention though was the spoiler.  I don't think the '87s had spoilers, but the guy whose selling the car that he bought it in '93 with 80k miles on it, says that's the way it was originally.  Maybe a dealer install.  Gives the car an interesting look.   Another thing is that the car has a flip up sun roof that was added before the seller got the car.  The interior has black and gray cloth seats are in good condition, but the door panels are separating and the headliner sags.  The engine is supposed to be ok, but the tranny is shot.  He's asking $1,000, but right now I have to pass.  If you want it, the seller's name is John Freas (740-323-0647) and he lives in Thornville, Ohio which is about 30 minutes east of Columbus.
