Joh 2 CONC n Sommer of Maximo, Stark Co., O., was born in Stark Co., O., Jan. 19, 1849; died at the hom 2 CONC e of his son-in-law (his home) Bro. and Sister Eli Becher, Aug. 27, 1915; aged 66y. 7m. 8d. I 2 CONC n his teens he united with the Amish Mennonite Church and rendered his Master faithful servic 2 CONC e until death. Sept. 25, 1873, he united in marriage with Sister Leah Ramseyer. To this unio 2 CONC n were born 2 sons and 5 daughters, 2 daughters having preceded him to the spirit world. Th 2 CONC e remainder of the family, 20 grandchildren, 1 brother, whose home is in Missouri, many relat 2 CONC ives and a host of friends mingle tears of sorrow over the departure of one who was a kind hu 2 CONC sband, a loving father and who had a smile and a kind word for all he chanced to meet. On Ma 2 CONC y 13, 1888, he was ordained to the ministry in the Beech congregation, Stark Co., O., in whic 2 CONC h capacity he served the Church faithfully. This same year we also organized our first Sunda 2 CONC y school and Bro. Sommer was elected superintendent and served six consecutive years amid con 2 CONC siderable opposition. Convinced of the need of this particular branch of church work, he cont 2 CONC inued undaunted in the work. He was conservative and yet progressive, choosing rather to be r 2 CONC ight than popular. The funeral services were conducted by the home ministers and Bro. J.S. Ge 2 CONC rig, who preached the sermon. Text, Rev. 14:13, was Bro. Sommer,s own choice. There were pres 2 CONC ent 16 ministers and a large concourse of people. Burial in the adjoining cemetery. The famil 2 CONC y deeply mourn their loss and we as a congregation will greatly miss his counsel and his pres 2 CONC ence. While we as ministers keenly feel the added responsibilities that come to us, yet we al 2 CONC l bow in humble submission to the will of our heavenly Father and pray His blessings upon u 2 CONC s and especially that God might bless the bereft family.
