Currenty you can view all of my short films at the following links:
SPY vs SPY v SPY. Our first ever attempt at the 48 Hour Film Project. The first time it has come to Columbus, Ohio too. I think we did a great job and so did the audiences. Sadly, we were panned in favor of animated vegetables on a stick. Apparently that was good film? Not bitter, just very very confused. Matt Kite. A short playful experimental piece testing the and cranking abilities of my Bolex H8 8mm movie camera. I apparently didn't open the loop formers. This gets me quite often it seems. Still, it turned out interesting with the in camera double exposures. The Beach. A short test for a short film I am still working on. Shot on 16mm Double-X Kodak film on several beaches in Maine, near Rockport. This will be a silent film with voice overs. Ghosts 1:1. Created for the NIN (Nine Inch Nails) double CD titled Ghosts at the request of Trent Reznor. This was shot on 16mm film with my windup Bolex on Kodak 250D color negative film. Pulled to B&W in post. The ghost is Susan Martin and a short appearance of one of the grand daughters, Mia. Friends: another piece made primarily from 8mm footage shot with a late 1960s era regular 8mm movie camera. Using Tri-X 100 shot at a local coffee shop mostly. Shots of friens of mine, just hanging out. Also contains some behind the scenes footage of a few of our other film based shoots. Numbers. a short piece made out of bits and pieces of 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm films of friends with sound by Mario Debuck and some recordings of cold war era "numbers stations". These were spy radio stations giving out coded messages to operatives all over the world.
One Sided Conversation. A short done in respose to a snippet of random conversation posted on a blog site and meant to stimulate artistic creativity. I shot this short with a Nikon D50 digital still camera.
The Waste. A sort of rambeling beatnik slam poetry sort of stream of consciousness thing. Elevator, a young woman who has lost her love, a soldier while on duty far away decides she will join him. On her way she meets the elevator man, a modern day ferryman leading her toward her reward. Stars Natalie Lloyd, Louie Cowan, Mary Vade Bon Coeur and Jason Morris as the soldier.
Balanced is a short that I shot with Natalie Lloyd while testing a new 1956 Bolex 16mm film camera I picked up on Ebay. The film was apparently misloaded and pulld through the gate in an odd way causing a streaking of the images. Still, it looked pretty neat so we used it for this tiny short idea.
The Last Stop. I was shooting 16mm test footage with my bolex and handed my trusty Canon 814XL-S Super 8 camera to my subject, Natalie Lloyd. I set it to fully automatic and told her to shoot anything she wanted. When the film came back I edited it down to a short about the last stop for all of us.
My Quiet Day. While on my last day off, recovering from minor abdominal surgery, I got bored and shot ths odd piece, using - my Motorola e815 cell phone. Dislocation. A man, visiting the graves of his family when he meets a dislocated young woman. My Angels. A quick thing I tossed together out of some footage I shot with a 1947 Sekonic 3-lens turret windup 8mm film camera. The Lottery Will be Televised. The Government controls the population through drugs and television. The Lottery show each night allows one citizen to "escape". Witness the benevolance of the Government.
Reindeer Murder. My latest contest entry based on the word "memories". Check it out.
Track 11.
I am really pretty happy with the way this one turned out for the most part. A piece of music on a long forgotten Soviet computer has the ability to unleash terrible thoughts. People are dying by their own hand all over the world once this song is released. Has feature potential I think.
Bent Rays is a contest entry for DVC6, the online challenge I enter..
Cat Fight at OK and Corral, my most professionally run set and a really fun effort. This was a full day shoot with real actors.
Memories of a Dream. A recent contest entry that is more an "art" film I suppose. It's based on the idea of Reflections.
Off the Radar. Shot when recovering from shoulder sugery during Christmas 2005.
Frame 37. This short has been show on big screens and recently, in a French film festival.
Secrets, my first ever, online award winning short video.
While all the above pieces are all mine, that written, directed, edited and sometimes shot by me, the following pieces were things I shot for other folks in the local film community.
Harrison Ford's Hero School. A short I played second camera on for a friend of mine at work. Xan Bonneau, my shooter on several of my pieces was 1st camera on this one. Great fun. The Bus Stop. A short by the folks at Shadowface Productions. Shane has been in a few of my pieces and when he asked if I shoot this one for him, I smiled. I like this one too. Roberts choice of synthesized cello for this otherwise silent short works very well. The Matriarch Trailer. This was put together by Lana Reed and Rhoda Cronnenberg as a demo piece for a story idea they had. I shot and lit mostly directed this one. I like it, especially the scenes in the basement.
