Rather pretentious sounding,
eh? Kinda like calling a mailman a "hard data
transfer engineer". I've been poking around on PC's
for a few years now, and recently got involved in HTML
language. So far I've coded everything "by
hand" but I imagine as this site grows I'll have to
spring for one of those fancy-dancy HTML generators.Check
out my list of people who
inspired me to do this.
Some people use their internet sites for
business, others for pleasure. I choose to view my site
as a substitute for the "book I never
published." Everyone says they want to write a book
someday, and this site is mine!
When I first put up this
website I wrote: "This is a really close 5th to
'postal worker'. My BA is in music, and if pushed I'm
sure I could probably make a living in music. But of
course I've got this great government job..."
Since that time I've obtained 2 (!) paying gigs. Maybe
this is my way out of the Postal Service. Check out my
new music endeavor Pianomoods.
It's what I do for at least
40 hours out of 168. The only thing I do more is sleep!
Then why don't I list it as #1? Well, because even when
I'm on the job, I spend a lot of time thinking about my
last 3 roles:
When my son Jacob was 14 he
got his first job. Even as my heart swelled with pride I
had to ask myself: "I wonder how some of the stuff I
say about my work is going to influence him now that he's
in the workforce? Being a dad is actually tougher than
being a postal worker, isn't it. I've only got one route,
but I've got 3 children (all teenagers now, *huge sigh*).
By the way, Jacob is 16 now and has his own web
site. I also have a daughter Anya (20) and another
son Chad (15).
This reverse ranking of
priorities I've used in this page reflects what, if push
came to shove, I'd let go first. If you let your work get
in the way of your spouse and children, shame on you!
There's no one on earth that comes close to Nancy on my
chart of priorities. What a woman! She recently struggled
with a multitude of medical problems but despite all the
ups and downs she was always there for me and the kids.
"Do you really mean to
tell me, Fred, that you'd sacrifice all those things you
just listed for the sake of some peasant whom the Romans
crucified in the 1st century along with thousands of
other peasants?" Well, in a word, absolutely! Please
understand, I'm just another guy amongst a few billion in
this world, and we all know what opinions are worth. If
you're curious as to why I would believe this Jesus guy,
feel free to ask me; but if you want to know what's really
true, don't ask me, (or anyone for that matter) except
the one guy that has the answers. If you don't know who
that person is, ask God. (He knows).
